Professor Yoshizaki has spent decades at the forefront of Japan’s security policy and research\, having served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Special Fellow for Policy Simulation at the National Institute for Defense Studies (NIDS)\, Ministry of Defense. \n*Session Highlights\nThis session goes beyond a standard lecture.  We will dive deep into the current global security landscape through the lens of three critical regions – Ukraine\, Israel\, and Iran – to understand their implications for Japan. \nThe second half of the session will feature a high-stakes “Policy Simulation.” \n“Never Say Never.”\nThis is the mantra Professor Yoshizaki uses to kick off his simulations. In an unpredictable world\, how do you analyze risks\, formulate policy\, and negotiate effectively in English? \nIn this interactive workshop\, participants will take on the roles of five global actors to tackle the crisis in Iran. You will define your actor’s National Interests and develop policy options using the DIME framework (Diplomacy\, Information\, Military\, and Economy). \nExpect the unexpected: your proposals may be supported\, ignored\, or even attacked by other actors with competing goals. From 2023 to 2026\, served as a Specially Appointed Professor at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Director of the TUFS Center for Area Studies (TASC). After stepping down from the university in the spring of 2026\, he continues to teach the “Peace Building and Conflict Prevention” course at JV-Campus. \nAfter completing his master’s degree at Keio University Graduate School in 1987\, he served at the National Institute for Defense Studies (NIDS) of the Ministry of Defense until 2023\, holding positions including Vice President for Academic Affairs\, Director of Policy Simulation\, and Director of the Security Studies Department\, where he was responsible for research\, education\, and strategic dialogue. During this period\, he also served as a visiting researcher at the Department of War Studies at King’s College London and the Hudson Institute in the United States. \nHe is currently a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) at the University of Tokyo\, a Visiting Professor at the University of International Studies and Science\, and an Adjunct Lecturer at Aoyama Gakuin University\, where he conducts research on international order and alliances.
