1966年生まれ。1989年東京大学法学部卒業後、日本興業銀行（現みずほ銀行）入行。同行調査部などを経て、2005年メリルリンチ日本証券・チーフ債券ストラテジスト。2007年株式会社大和総研・シニアエコノミスト。2010年同社・チーフエコノミスト。2014年同社・執行役員チーフエコノミスト。2015年より現職。

東京大学大学院法学政治学研究科修士課程修了（旧興銀より国内留学）。
総務省「情報通信審議会」委員（2015年～）、内閣官房「公的・準公的資金の運用・リスク管理等の高度化等に関する有識者会議」有識者委員（2013年～）、内閣府「今後の経済財政動向等についての集中点検会合」メンバー（2013年）、財務省「関税・外国為替等審議会」専門委員（2002年～2011年）、参議院予算委員会調査室　客員調査員（2010年。2012年）などの公職を歴任。大阪経済大学客員教授（2013年～）。株式会社財界研究所「財界賞・経営者賞」選考委員会　選考委員（2011年～）。

Mr.KUMAGAI is a regular commentator on TV Tokyo’s World Business Satellite.

*Speaker’s bio
Mitsumaru Kumagai is Chief Economist at the Economic Research Department of Daiwa Institute of Research.
He was appointed Operating Officer in 2014 and began in his current position in 2015. He is responsible for covering Japan’s economy and is in charge of the quarterly publication of Japan’s Economic Outlook.

He has served on several government committees including the Ministry of Finance Council on Customs, Tariff, Foreign Exchange and Other Transactions (2002-11), and was a visiting researcher for the Budget Committee Research Bureau at the House of Councilors (2010). He was also a member of the Cabinet Office’s Intensive Inspection Meeting on Economic and Fiscal Policy Trends (2013), as well as a member of the expert committee for the Cabinet Secretariat’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Improvement of Investment and Risk Management of Public & Quasi-Public Funds (2013).
In 2015 he was appointed a committee member on the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ Information and Communications Council.

He has been a visiting professor at Osaka University of Economics since 2013, a member of the Japan Society of Monetary Economics, and a regular commentator on TV Tokyo’s World Business Satellite, Japan’s leading business news program. He placed first seven times as economist and forex analyst in various surveys.

Mr. Kumagai is the author of “Passing China—Era of Direct Alliance between Japan and South East Asia ” published by Kodansha (available in Japanese only).

Mr. Kumagai received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law in 1989 and 1993 from Tokyo University. He is a chartered member of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan.
